The band's name is taken from the Dune novel,
where Sadus is the Fremen (a group of people in the Dune universe) word for "judges".
The title is used to refer to holy judges, equivalent to saints.
Sadus never split up during the 1990s or 2000s.
Darren Travis, Steve DiGiorgio, and Jon Allen kept the band going as a trio
after guitarist Rob Moore parted ways with the band in 1994,
despite members of the band having committed to other ventures outside of Sadus
(with DiGiorgio gigging for Death, Testament, and a myriad of other projects,
and Allen involved with Dragonlord and Testament as well).
These factors also led to some occasional band activity,
including occasional live performances and two more albums under the Sadus name.
