One of the pioneers of death/doom metal alongside Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride
(sometimes known as "the Peaceville Three").
Guitarist Vincent Cavanagh took over as the band's vocalist when Darren White left.
Anathema maintained four of the original five band members in the line-up
for the majority of their duration, but Vincent Cavanagh was the only ever-present.
Anathema effectively traded keyboard players with Cradle of Filth in 2000.
Martin Powell left his role as Anathema's live keyboardist to join Cradle as a replacement for Les Smith,
who then went on to join Anathema first in a touring capacity and later as a permanent member.

Liverpool doom prophets Anathema first burst on the scene in the early 90's
and released their debut album Serenades on Peaceville in 1993.
Original vocalist Daz White had this to say at the time
"Anathema is not just another heavy metal band
but a presence and a power in every living spirit."
